WeWantWorkBoston is a group of about 40 out-of-work senior-level professionals who have joined together to develop innovative approaches to our job search. We are highly motivated and focused on returning to work but are frustrated with some of the more traditional job-search methods. Therefore, we are working collaboratively to develop ways to differentiate ourselves in the market, and to position ourselves for more visibility with potential employers.

How did we start?

The idea for WeWantWorkBoston came from a similar group in New York, which began by simply handing out resumes in front of target companies, and developed into a multi-tiered grass roots marketing program. Visit the New York site (www.wewantwork.com) to see their successes.

Our Boston-area group was formed by four out-of-work professionals who joined to share job-hunting experiences and develop strategies for different ways of looking for work. We are now a group of about 40 professionals who are actively implementing a creative campaign to raise awareness in the business community about our talents and availability for work.

Who are our members?

Members of our group come from a variety of professions and business areas. We have expertise in information technology, corporate communications, web design, organizational development, finance, engineering, public relations, marketing, business development, human resources, sales and similar professions. We have experience in companies in biotech, financial services, telecommunications, research, high-tech, software development, education, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, transportation and other Fortune 500 companies and global businesses.

All members have a minimum of 10 or more years' progressive experience in their fields; most of us have advanced certifications and degrees, and have served in managerial or senior positions in leading companies.

We all have a high degree of success in our previous jobs, and will likely continue that track record in our new companies. All of us are energetic and positive about our future prospects and are willing to think outside the traditional job search box.

Our members are committed to the success of their colleagues, and our goal is to see each of us returned to gainful employment.

What is our goal?

Our goal is to see all of our members return to full-time work in their chosen field, in positions contributing to the success of leading companies. As our members land new positions, we refresh the membership with new colleagues to maintain the strength and vitality of the group.

What are our stategies?

Our strategies are focused on driving traffic to our Website and raising awareness with as many potential employers as possible about the highly talented pool of job candidates in our membership.

We are also seeking strategic alliances with area businesses who are inspired by our vision, energy and commitment, and who recognize the potential power of our talent pool and the mutual benefit of our project to their own success.

What are our tactics?

Current tactics include:

  1. A Website to showcase the qualifications of our members
  2. Special networking events for executives, human resource professionals, and hiring managers in the greater Boston area to introduce them to our members
  3. Consulting projects with non-profits to share group expertise and give back to our communities
  4. Surveys and research to explore talent issues in target industries
  5. A public relations campaign for press coverage targeted at publications read by successful executives in leading companies
  6. A e-zine and direct e-mail campaign from members to their employed colleagues, asking them to spread the word within their companies
  7. Guerrilla marketing tactics on the street with poster boards and flyers to promote events and the Website

We are continually developing additional tactics and events to promote our success. Please check our Events page for current activities.
